Good storage helps reduce tangling, rubbing and accidental knocks. It cannot guarantee that jewellery will never tarnish or that plating will last indefinitely. Start with the materials and care instructions for each piece rather than applying one method to your whole collection.

Clean gently before putting pieces away

For routine care of Auricka's plated and mixed-material pieces, use a soft, dry cloth and follow the individual care instructions. Avoid soaking, household cleaners and abrasive polishing unless the maker confirms they are suitable for every component.

Give delicate surfaces their own space

Separate earrings, rings and pendants so that metal edges and stone settings do not rub against neighbouring pieces. Keep pairs together without forcing one earring against the other.

Choose a soft pouch or lined compartment

A clean, soft pouch can help protect a single piece from contact with harder objects. An anti-tarnish product intended for silver is not automatically appropriate for pearls, coatings or every gemstone. Check the storage product's instructions and the jewellery's care guidance.

Keep jewellery away from cosmetics and bathroom steam

Choose a stable place away from radiators, direct sun, perfume and household chemicals. Do not put damp pieces into a closed case. For pearl jewellery, avoid hot, excessively dry storage; GIA's pearl care advice recommends a soft pouch or case.

Organise chains, cuffs and rings separately

Fasten chains before storing them and leave enough space for them to lie without knots. Support shaped cuffs and larger earrings rather than compressing them into an overfilled compartment. Check that settings cannot catch on the lining.

Use the right cloth

A plain, very soft cloth and a chemically treated polishing cloth are different products. Do not use silver polish on gold plating or pearl surfaces. Gentle wiping is a safer starting point than trying to restore shine by rubbing harder.

Leave repairs and uncertain cleaning to a professional

If a stone feels loose, a clasp is damaged or a surface has changed, stop wearing the piece and ask a jeweller about suitable care. A brush can scratch or catch delicate components; do not copy a cleaning photo without checking the materials.

Pack a small selection for travel

Use separate padded spaces in a compact case. Do not let several rings knock together or leave necklaces loose in a handbag. Avoid long-term plastic-bag storage for pearls and follow any material-specific instructions.

Make returning jewellery to its place a habit

Check each piece as you put it away, so a missing back or loose clasp is noticed before your next outing. Good organisation also makes it easier to see what you already own.
