An engagement ring can be personal without following a particular year's trend. Begin with the wearer's preferences, the complete design and the way the ring is intended to be worn.

This is a general design guide. Auricka's linked ring collection is a retail collection of decorative designs; this article does not establish a bespoke engagement-ring service, a diamond collection or the suitability of every ring for continuous daily wear.

Compare the outline you enjoy

Round, oval, pear, rectangular and marquise outlines create different visual effects. Shape describes the face-up outline; it is not the same as a stone's cutting style or quality. GIA's diamond shape guide offers more detail for readers comparing diamond designs.

Try different proportions rather than assuming a particular outline is flattering on everyone. Photographs can help you compare appearance, but the actual dimensions and fit matter.

Look at the setting and band together

A single centre, a halo-style border, a cluster or several accents can change the focus of a ring. The setting's height and the band width also affect how the design feels on the hand and how it sits beside another ring.

Ask a qualified jeweller about the security and practical suitability of the particular stone and setting. A decorative open band or statement face should not be assumed to suit the same wear as a purpose-designed everyday ring.

Separate colour from material identity

A red, blue or clear accent may be a named gemstone, a laboratory-created material, a crystal or an imitation. Read the description and any supporting documentation. Similar colour does not make two materials interchangeable.

The same applies to the metal: a gold-tone appearance does not establish solid gold. Check the base metal, plating or other finish and the care information for the complete piece.

Ask what supports a sourcing claim

If an environmental, recycled-content or ethical-sourcing claim influences your choice, ask for evidence about the specific item. A broad material label does not document every part of its production or guarantee a lower environmental impact.

For an antique or heirloom, ask about the item's documented history and present condition. A vintage-inspired new design is different from a dated historic object.

Confirm custom services and timing

Engraving, resizing, stone changes and bespoke design depend on what the seller actually offers and what the construction permits. Obtain written confirmation of the design, material details, fit, lead time, quotation and applicable terms before commissioning work.

Do not assume that a general jewellery collection link confirms any of those services. The current listing and direct seller confirmation should guide your decision.

Discuss an individual design

Auricka offers custom design, engraving, resizing and heirloom resetting. Contact Auricka about your piece so we can discuss suitability, materials, a quotation and timing before you place a service order. Not every alteration is suitable for every design.
